New Trend in Menswear: Man Cleavage

After reviewing the Spring 2007 RTW collections for men, I noticed a disturbing new trend. This season there is a push for Man Cleavage! Plunging necklines are hot, for men? From sheer gauzy shirts to way low v-necks, there were pieces in collections from Versace, Calvin Klein, D&G, Roberto Cavalli, Iceberg, Etro, Valentino and Gucci just to name a few. This is a trend I truly hope we don't see off the runway. It seems just a little too Euro trash for my taste, some may disagree but I am really not into seeing a man's chesticals so on display in public. Nevertheless, here are the some of the ones that caught my eye:

Road Trip

Today a study released the findings that New York drivers rank the lowest nationally on written tests. Honestly, who is really surprised by this. However, New Yorkers lost the award of "America's Meanest Drivers" coming in second to the incumbent title holder, the city of Miami.

Since this is Memorial Day weekend and all I figured I could offer a method to help tame Road Rage!!!

I PLATE U (http://iplateu.com/) was just launched to helps us deal with it constructively. And it's FREE.

Haute Summer Trends

While reviewing the '07 collections we'll all be wearing this season I came across this little Versace number: While the dress is definately Donatella, isn't the runway background so Missoni?

Do It Up

Now that prom season is in full swing, we recently caught up with Nikki Ray, Salon A.K.S. up-do guru extraordinaire, and got the scoop on creating the ultra chic chignon of the season.

Whether you are rushing to get ready in the morning with just minutes to spare or need a look that will make an impression, all you need, according to Nikki Ray, Salon A.K.S Senior Stylist, is an up-do. “Keep it simple and elegant,” says Nikki, “with a low classic chignon that will never go out of style.”

Chignon Facile – After pressing the snooze button on your alarm for the fifth time this morning, you have just minutes to get ready. What to do? “Easy!” says Nikki, “All you need is a messy chignon that is chic and takes seconds to do.” Simply take your hair and make a low, loose braid and then pin the ends up behind the top of where the braid begins with a clip or some hair pins. Gently pull a few strands of hair from the braid to give a layered, messy look. With a more bohemian feel than the classic chignon, a chignon facile will complement any style from day to night.

Band It – Want to look casual yet effortlessly put together? “A thin headband or scarf looks great with a low classic chignon,” says Nikki. The band will keep hair slicked back and give your up-do a more fun, sporty look. “A band is a great way to accessorize your outfit,” says Nikki. So have fun with it! A different headband or scarf can change your look in no time flat. A perfect hairstyle for casual Fridays or simply a day spent on the beach, it’s the ideal up-do of the summer.

24 / 7 Chignon – Need an up-do that will last all day? No problem. With the right products, your up-do will last for hours without any touchups needed. Add a soft hold mousse before styling, like L’Oreal Professionell Volumizing Mousse to give hair texture and remove flyaways. After styling, spray a light hairspray, like Phytolaque Soie all over and voila! No matter how hectic your day is, your chignon will never bear the signs.

Trick of the Up-do Trade – “The best up-do trick,” explains Nikki, “is to not wash your hair the day of or even the day before you style.” The natural oils found in your hair and scalp actually serve as the best possible styling aid for creating the hold a chignon needs. This will eliminate flyaways and will keep your style in place from dawn to dusk, making this coif the perfect solution to those sometimes lazy days.

Our thanks to Nikki Ray for making a DIY updo seem surposingly simple! I'll still need to keep that appointment though. You can schedule yours too by calling Salon A.K.S. located at 689 Fifth Avenue at 212-888-0707.

What's Up Doc?

At Eversopopular we talk to the experts to get you the inside scoop on what's hot.
Recenlty we spoke one of New York City’s leading dermatologists, Dr. Debra J. Wattenberg to get her advice on the best skincare products. Here's a glimpse at her prescription pad:

My favorite acne regimen is the new AcneRecovery System. This unique system gives you the best of both worlds with adjustable doses of salicylic acid and benzoyl peroxide designed to treat and repair skin. Two simple steps – cleanse and moisturize – twice a day and you’re good to go. Dr. Wattenberg’s favorite part – “The dial on the lotions enables you to dose out the exact amount of active ingredients. Too little, pump it up. Too strong, dial it down.” The AcneRecovery three-piece system retails for $99 at Nordstrom and www.nordstrom.com.

My favorite cleanser is Cetaphil. “I dare you to find something more gentle,” exclaimed Dr. Wattenberg. Originally formulated for dermatologists, it is gentle on your skin and will not strip the skin of natural protective oils or emollients, or disturb the skin’s natural pH balance. Cetaphil retails for approximately $10 at www.drugstore.com.

My favorite moisturizer with sunscreen is Anthelios SX from La Roche-Posay. Coveted in Europe and recently approved by the FDA, Dr. Wattenberg recommends her patients use Anthelios SX to meet two important needs: “Not only does it provide outstanding moisturization but it also protects skin from damaging UVA rays that can cause aging and skin cancer including deadly melanoma. It is a win-win – everyone moisturizes so why not get the added protection?” Anthelios SX retails for $29 and can be found at doctor’s offices, including Dr. Wattenberg’s, as well as CVS/pharmacy locations nationwide.

My favorite under eye product is The Eyes Have It! by PRESCRIBED solutions. The ultimate multi-tasker, Dr. Wattenberg notes that this lightweight, rapidly absorbed serum relieves three different under eye concerns: puffiness, dark circles, and crow’s feet. Clinical trials from the company show 65% of the panelists showed a measurable improvement in eye bag volume after 28 days and when applied to the crow’s feet area over a 3 week period, wrinkles were 26% less noticeable. The Eyes Have It! is available for $90 at doctor’s offices, including Dr. Wattenberg’s, and online at www.prescribedsolutions.com.

My favorite anti-aging product is Renova .02%. This is the first prescription cream proven to reduce fine facial lines associated with chronic sun exposure when used as part of a comprehensive skin care program. “I have seen excellent results from patients using this topical. In addition to diminished fine lines, there is also significant improvement in brown spots.” Renova .02% is available by prescription only. See your dermatologist for more information.

My favorite body lotion is Kiehl’s Crème de Corps. “It is the ultimate in luxury,” noted Dr. Wattenberg. So what makes this body crème so amazing? Ingredients such as beta-carotene, cocoa butter, sesame oil help treat dry, flaky skin and the rich texture makes you feel like a star. Kiehl’s Crème de Corps retails for $16-$44 depending on size at www.kiehls.com.

My favorite lip balm is Neutrogena Lip Balm with SPF 15. Dry, chapped lips are a thing of the past! This PABA-free lip moisturizer can be used daily to keep lips smooth, hydrated and protected. Formulated with the purest of ingredients, there is no added color, fragrance or unnecessary additives. Why is it a favorite of Dr. Wattenberg? “It is simple, affordable and it works. What more could you want?!” Neutrogena Lip Balm with SPF 15 retails for approximately $3.50 at www.drugstore.com

Dr. Wattenberg’s new office is located at 875 Fifth Avenue in New York City.

Bzzzzz: Its the Beauty Buzz

I love springtime, especially on a beautiful sunny day like today.

But on not so nice days...those humid and rainy days bring out the worst in my hair. Well, Aveda has a solution: Smooth Infusion Shampoo and Conditioner and when used together this dynamic duo helps you get a smooth start on styling. The formula, smoothes and softens hair up to 60%, and works in four ways: it softens hair, restores moisture, infuses smoothness and protects against heat styling. What I wish I had right now...

Did you ever notice the "basics" aren't enough? Its a Tuesday evening and I am getting set to go out, but the weather just threw a major curve: The dreaded thunderstorm! I do have a practical cover up, but nothing to go with my cute evening ensemble. So instead of the sensible trench I own, right now I wish I had this black nylon trench by the Swedish brand Filippa K. It's practical enough to keep my delicate silk dress dry, but sexy in it's own sleek little way.
