Random Thought: Am I Getting Old?
I just watched an episode of the Golden Girls (GG) and Blanche (the easy southern one) was wearing the coolest cream suit (a structured double breasted jacket w/soft peplum detail & knee length pencil skirt) So very late 80s and I loved it/want it! I know you think I am crazy….So fine, I’m going take some cheesecake out on the lanai and talk this over with my friends.
Earth Day: TAME YOUR WORKPLACE JUNGLE
Make a resolution to reduce your carbon footprint by incorporating plants into your working world. Plants are installed in buildings because they look attractive and help to provide a pleasant, tranquil environment in which to work or relax.
Research has shown that healthy, well-maintained plants can improve air quality, reduce background noise and affect peoples' behavior. Plants help to reduce the irritating background noise produced by talking, office equipment and reverberations from hard surfaces. Plants help to keep the air in buildings fresh and at an optimal humidity level. Make your life greener, healthier and more beautiful by incorporating plants into your workplace.
As reported by Dana Knight of Gannett News Service,
"a little green in the office makes us better workers. No. Not money. Foliage.Heaps of research has proven that plants and flowers - more than sculptures, art or music - make us more productive employees and put us in delightful moods.
But what about when the greenery adorning your desk turns to brown, and crusty leaves fall off and crumble into your keyboard?
Instead of feeling better and feistier, you feel like a failure.
"For some, just getting plants to live for the long term indoors is a challenge," says horticulture expert Ken Brewer with Ambius, formerly called Initial Tropical Plants, www.ambius.com, in Illinois. But that shouldn't deter anyone from embellishing the desk with plants. They offer all sorts of benefits, Brewer says.
"A close association with nature. Inspiration and contemplative parameters that only a living thing can provide," he says. "Provides us with a bridge to a simpler time and place." If you work in an office building, Brewer recommends keeping at least one plant on your desk.
