On a riveting 60 Minutes segment, Morley Safer interviewed Anna Wintour and revealed the reason she wears sunglasses indoors and outdoors - to hide her boredom. Wintour, editor of style bible Vogue, is invited to numerous fashion shows and gatherings year round, so she uses the glasses to hide her true feelings when she is unimpressed at what is being presented. “I can sit in a show and if I am bored out of my mind, nobody will notice. At this point, they have become, really, armor.”
Wintour is not the only celebrity to hide behind her sunglasses. Victoria Beckham is rarely seen without her huge designer glasses and has previously explained she feels better wearing them as people can see less of her face. Conspicuous logos and white frames a-la Victoria Beckham are on the way out, but oversized sunnies, aviators and colorful plastic hues are hot, hot, hot and Oakley presents an array of styles to make your “armor” Vogue worthy.
Oversized sunglasses are still very in and whether you are looking to be ravishing – or just to be ravished – this of-the-moment model will hit the mark. Channeling the spirit of Jackie-O while transcending hip aesthetics, Ravishing’s ($155 at www.Oakley.com) oversized shape embodies the latest in eyewear.
What goes best with your metallic dress or your foil-effect T-shirt? Mirror-like materials are beginning to shine again, especially with the colorful plastics in Oakley’s Compulsive ($145 at www.Oakley.com) model from the new active collection.
Vintage inspired remains hot and Oakley Jupiter’s are a spin off of their classic Frogskin model. Oakley Jupiter LX ($130 at www.Oakley.com), provides a smooth look with icon accents, sculptural detailing and metal bands for an assertive edge.
